Workplace Security: 5 Tips for Keeping Your Office Secure
When your workplace is more secure, everyone feels safer. There are many different ways to add more security, both inside and outside the building.

Install A New Alarm System

The first step involves installing a brand new alarm system. With video verification and other measures in place, your verified alarm system can help improve response times by police and firefighters along with EMS services. Another reason to have a verified alarm system is that it can help catch intruders and lower the occurrences of false alarms that can ruin your reputation.

Incorporate an Integrated Security System

Another step in the process is to add an integrated security system. This includes a central command center for monitoring the security cameras, CCTV cameras, the mainframe for the access control systems throughout your building, and also one of the most highly-advanced technological solutions for improving workplace security: audio intrusion detection.

Start Screening Job Applicants

Employee screening is essential, especially when new hires are being on-boarded. If there is a legitimate reason to be concerned about extending a job offer to a candidate, then it is understandable to screen them out. This program should check for criminal records and past references. Getting copies of credentials and certifications is also essential.

Begin an Access Control Program

If there isn’t an access control program in place already, then now would be a good time to start one. With this system ready to go, your employees won’t have to worry about lost keys or to get lost and being unable to access an area where they aren’t supposed to be. If anyone loses their keycard or leaves the company, their identity cards can be deactivated before being recycled for newer employees who are coming onboard.

Focus on Employee Training

Finally, take the time to focus on employee training. Offering paid training sessions and supporting them in their attempts to gain new certifications or advance their careers is well worth it. But that’s not all you can or should do. Train your employees on how to respond to emergencies, whether it has to do with a fire or an active shooter. Protecting assets, changing passwords, and securing the building should all be part of the training. Also, emphasize confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements along with policies on employee theft and conflicts.
